Style File: The Evolution of Street Style
Fashion photographers are taking it to the streets, capturing more and more images of ordinary people wearing extraordinary ensembles as “street style” has exploded in popularity. Happening in major cities all around the world, street style is not for only the young, as persons of all ages, shapes, and sizes being photographed wearing wonderful fashion creations. It’s inclusive, it’s creative and you’re invited to partake. This approach to style is becoming more relevant, and with a central facet of the trend being its focus on looks you can achieve now, it’s winning the war against the traditional idea of style being dictated by fashion houses, with lines that aren’t accessible for months! What also makes street style amazing is it’s imperfectness. Due to the major DIY component, street style emphasizes authenticity and personality of the person wearing the clothing, instead of the clothing speaking about the individual. How you wear something is now more important than what you’re wearing. This type of style also assists budding fashionistas on where to start and how certain trends look “outside the box” of a studio or magazine. Most recently a photo shoot was staged outside the Chanel show during Paris Fashion Week where passersby got the opportunity to be photographed in their unique threads. Thanks to street style we are seeing high end looks becoming more accessible as outfits that are being captured can be put together at a fraction of the cost than that of a similar haute couture ensemble. Also finding street styles is no longer restricted to online sources (gone are the days of The Satorialist being your only option for what people are wearing) as you can find yourself stumbling upon street style sections in print mediums these days (magazines and papers), as this trend of trying to capture people “peacocking” has become more of the norm. Some magazine’s websites even allow users to upload photos of themselves in a sort of “What are you wearing today” contest, submitting their images for critique. BeTrenders we want to know what do you guys think about street style? Have you been photographed on the streets? Why not send us some photos of your recent fabulous ensembles?
