Decision 2012: Third & Final Presidential Debate

BeTrenders, the debates may be over but the victor won’t be determined until November 6th. Last night’s event, moderated by Bob Schieffer (CBS television journalist), saw Romney and Obama face off in Boca Raton, Florida on the topic of foreign policy. Discussing America’s position on Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Israel (amongst many other countries) both candidates appeared at their best in this final blowout, clearly outlining their objectives if they became/remained President.

Unlike in previous debates, we saw Romney appear more moderate, the discussion maintained a level of civility and even saw a lot of AGREEMENT between Obama and Romney on certain foreign policies. Although the debate was focused on international politics, both candidates brought the debate back home and continued on the topic of domestic issues. Commentators like Piers Morgan noted that refocusing the attention on Americans aided Romney’s position. Romney seemed to agree with a lot of Obama’s policies as it pertained to national security.

Like in previous debates, viewers jumped on twitter to participate in the discussion digitally. The site saw over 6.5 million tweets (the lowest for all debates) but the event did see a ton of celebrities chime in. From Chris Rock to Lindsay Lohan hollywood threw in their 2 cents worth for their followers. But if you’re looking for memorable quotes, BTM has to give it up to the candidates. Did you tune it when Obama said, “You seem to want to import the foreign policies of the 1980s, just like the social policies of the 1950s and the economic policies of the 1920s.” Or perhaps you heard Romney’s zinger on the state of Al Qaeda, “Its certainly not on the run. It’s certainly not in hiding. This is a group that is now involved in 10 or 12 countries.” Either way, both men performed well and we highly enjoyed tuning in last night. In case you missed any of last night’s debate you can watch it here.
